Next Empty Bowls Event, Friday March 7th 2025

Help fight hunger in our local community. At the in-person event, sample soups from several restaurants, enjoy the music, paricipate in the silent auction and select a handcrafted bowl from the hundreds crafted by local artists who donated their work to make this all possible. Your bowl is both a memento and a reminder of the needs of the food insecure. Tickets will be available in January.

Our Mission

Empty Bowls Virginia Peninsula is a completely volunteer organization working to reduce hunger and food insecurity in our local peninsula communities. Our grassroots efforts raise both money and awareness in the fight against hunger. The Empty Bowls project started with a Michigan art teacher in 1990 as a way to raise charitable funds for his community. His idea spread, and Empty Bowls events now take place across the United States and in at least a dozen other countries. Millions of dollars have been raised and donated to hunger fighting organizations.
Since 2011, here on the peninsula, we have distributed in excess of 95% of all donations directly to the charities we support, delivering over $290,000 to our local community.
The EBVP Board and Committees are the energy and organization behind this event. Our committee members give their time and talent to a variety of activities: recruiting food and beverage donors, designing graphics and publicity materials, maintaining our Facebook page and web site, ticket sales, volunteer recruitment, organization, and bowl creation. It is a year long effort.

Impact

Empty Bowls Virginia Peninsula (EBVP)is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Federal Tax ID # 45-2454986 supporting the local efforts in the fight against food insecurity.
Thanks to the generosity of all involved, since our inception in 2011 we have distributed over $290,000 to assist local hunger reduction efforts of these local charitable organizations:
SAME, THRIVE, Virginia Peninsula FoodBank, FISH, Inc., York County Food Closet and Grove Christian Out-Reach Center.
